Project Status

February 2014

- There will be a neighbourhood meeting on March 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Jack Blanchard Centre on Pond Street to discuss the next construction phases of this project, which are anticipated to begin in May.

November 14, 2013

- Island Coastal Services has completed Phase 2 construction with the installation of 3950 m of new sewer main, 1500 m of new sewer service laterals and 64 new manholes. With the construction season coming to a close, final reinstatement will be completed in the coming weeks; including landscaping and site cleanup. The Spring Park Combined Sewer Separation Project was recently recognized by Atlantic Canada Water and Wastewater Association as the 2013 Project of the Year for large systems servicing over 25,000 customers. The award was presented at the 2013 ACWWA Conference held in Fredericton, NB from Sept. 29 – Oct. 1.

September 25, 2013

- Island Coastal Services continue with the installation of the new gravity sewer main, with approximately 3.0 kilometers installed to date. The installation is complete on all of the major streets, with work now progressing onto Selkirk Crescent, Trafalgar Street, Riverview Drive, North River Lane and Maloney Drive.

July 29, 2013

- Island Coastal Services continue with the installation of the new gravity sewer main, with approximately 1.3km installed to date. They are currently preparing to begin the installation along North River Road, which will take approximately 7 weeks as they work north towards Nassau Street.

June 7, 2013

There will be a neighbourhood meeting on June 19th at 7:00 pm, at the Jack Blanchard Centre on Pond Street, to discuss the current construction activity. All who have questions and/or concerns regarding the construction are welcome to attend.

May 17, 2013

Island Coastal Services Ltd. has been awarded the contract for Phase II of the project, with construction scheduled to begin May 21 and be complete by the end of November.

W M & M are completing work in Desbrisay Park on the new pumping station, and are scheduled to complete work by the end of May.

Design is underway for phases III and IV of the project, with construction to take place in 2014.

April 12, 2013

Island Coastal Services Ltd. has been awarded the contract for Phase II of the project, with construction expected to begin mid-May and be complete by the end of November.

W M & M continue with work in Desbrisay Park on the new pumping station, and are expected to have the station commissioned by the end of April, with final landscaping to be completed in May/June.

Design is underway for phases III and IV of the project, with construction to take place in 2014.

The Phase II tender closing has been rescheduled to 12:00 noon on Monday, March 25, 2013 due to the inclement weather.

January 28, 2013

Construction of Phase 1A and 1B wrapped up toward the end of November, with the installation of 3 km of new sewer main throughout the downtown core. A short section of paving along Queen Street will be completed in the spring. Phase 1C work is ongoing by WM&M, with the installation of the new pumping station in Desbrisay Park and the retrofit of the Brighton Pumping Station, on Queen Elizabeth Drive. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of February, with the site cleanup and sodding to take place in the spring. The design of Phase II is well underway, with construction to begin in the spring.
